Hersch Pahl with his Lockheed P-80A `Shooting Star`
The P-80 `Shooting Star` was the first Jet Fighter to be used in Missile Testing at NAMTC Point Mugu, CA, May 1947. Note the steel `Marston matting` used in lieu of concrete, asphalt or other hard surface. Pahl is wearing the old soft helmet. Navy hard hats were not yet considered a necessity. Cliff Weirick helped to maintain this plane in flyable condition under austere conditions. |
